Life Sentances for Two Athletes

Vitruvian Life SentancesPace Setter Events are sad to announce that two well known athletes have been given life sentences for their involvement in the Vitruvian Triathlon. Rob Argles age 42 from Putney and Howard Davis 47 from Hitchin. Both athletes pleaded guilty to having raced at all seven Vitruvians since the staging of the first Vitruvian in 2003.

Argles who is well known to the authorities as an active triathlete was found in possession of a bike, a wetsuit and some running shoes as well as a watch showing a PB on his last outing admitted he had been at Rutland Water on the last 7 occasions. Davis who whilst not acting in association with Argles had also been present and asked for numerous other races to be taken into consideration.

In sentencing Race Director Mark Shaw stated:

“Gentlemen, you have pleaded guilty to the charges brought by this court, and it is now my duty to pass sentence. You are habitual triathletes, who duly accept swimming, biking and running as an occupational hazard, and presumably accept training in the same casual manner. We therefore feel constrained to commit you to the maximum term allowed for these offences — your sentence is free entry into the Vitruvian Triathlon for life.”

For Argles who dipped under the five hour mark at his last attempt this will mean some serious hard labour, whilst Davis who claimed to have been lead astray by the notorious “Tri Force Gang” is still appealing his case and pleaded for mercy as he was lead away into T2.

In a statement to the media read out by one of their associates Pace Setter Events stated:

“We hope this is a lesson for all would be triathletes especially the novices who have just started out down that road. We know how addictive it can be, it starts off with a sprint race and before they know it they’re hooked and start to look for something stronger like the Vitruvian. It becomes a way of life and before long your in the 70-74 age group and still dressing up in rubber, riding your bike and shuffling around a run route with a number pined to your back. It’s too late for Howard and Rob but hopefully this benchmark decision will make a difference to some.”
