Who are Pacesetter Events?
OK, you have decided, after hours of searching to commit yourself to an event. Ahead of you is months, weeks or maybe just days of training. So, it is important too, that we the event organisers also spend, months, weeks and days of organising an event that we would wish to race in. Don’t be fooled by marketing, fancy websites, lovely images and guarantees of a professional organised event. Over the last couple of years, there has been a huge increase in events and also a huge increase in event organisers. Not all are the same, beware. We have been competing in triathlons since 1985 and we organised our first event in 1991. Our values are still the same – organise safe, fun and competitive events that we would like to participate in ourselves.
You don’t have to believe what we are saying. In 2007, our events where voted Regionally and Nationally as ‘Event of the Year’ by triathlons governing body, the British Triathlon Federation. And in the 220 Triathlon Magazine annual awards, voted by the readers of 220 Triathlon Magazine, in the ‘Race of the Year’ category, not only did we win with ‘The Vitruvian’ taking overall title but we also took the runners up position for ‘The Club Relays’.
We believe in setting the standards, not following them but our name gives that away. We were one of the first organisers to use electronic timing at all of our events, or to offer the flexibility to enter our events online. In 2002, we started a middle distance event called ‘The Vitruvian’, at the time there was less than a handful t of middle distance events to choose; now they are one of the most popular events available. In 2008, we organised a Worlds first, a fully classified disabled athlete exclusive National Triathlon Championships. This event was part of what a festival of triathlon based in South Yorkshire. We organised 7 events over the space of a weekend, from tiny tots racing on their scooters, women’s only triathlon to a standard distance event. Going forward, we expect to working closely with local authorities to organise more triathlon festivals.
In 2008, over 15,000 people took part in one of our events. We organised over 30 multi sport events, 14 of these events where ‘house’ events organised by either Pace Setter Events, One Step Beyond Promotions or Transition Sport. The balance of the events where organised by One Step Beyond under our ‘Event in a Box’ consultancy umbrella. Within those additional ‘Event in a Box’ events where over 10 triathlons that we delivered on behalf of British Triathlon Federation and their premier sponsor Corus.
So, why do so many people choose us? We like to think that it is the attention to detail. Obviously, the ease of entry helps, either online or offline. You will then receive an automatic confirmation of your entry and with just a few days to go we send you an email containing your entire event details. A lot of what is different about our events you will not even notice, you will be greeted when parking your vehicle and then by friendly and knowledge volunteers in registration. We have a dedicated group of volunteers that contains over 100 people, some that have been volunteering for over 15 years. What you should notice is the secure transition areas, high quality professional event signage, security wristbands for all athletes and event staff, swim hats, manned drink stations on course and at the finish. From your feedback, you told us how important it is that your event shirt fits you, so we supply shirts for both men and women in your size. If you look closely you will also see our key officials with professional communications, paramedics’ onsite and on course, motorbike referees on the bike course and if you have been unlucky, then you might have got a lift in our sweeper vehicle on course to collects all of those unfortunates. I could go on, but I don’t want to give all of our secrets away.
But, you really don’t have to believe us, as they say, ‘the proof of the pudding is in the eating’. Why don’t you come and join us?
